Anatomical alterations in taro corms with "metsubure" symptoms Horticultura Brasileira
Pereira,Francisco HF; Puiatti,Mário; Meira,Renata MSA; Fontes,Paulo CR.
Taro plants present high Ca absorption. There is evidence that the disorder "metsubure" is of nutritional origin being attributed to calcium deficiency. The metsubure is characterized by the corm apical bud suppression and a smooth lesion in the apex. This disorder reduces the taro corms value as food and hinders their utilization as a propagative material in commercial fields. In subterranean structures, Ca deficiency is believed to be more harmful to the vascular tissue cells since they have thicker walls than other tissue cells. Thus, this work aimed to characterize the anatomical changes in taro corms (Colocasia esculenta), cv. Chinese (BGH 5928) with "metsubure" symptoms. For this, corms with and without this symptom were obtained from plants grown in...

Assessment on nutrient levels in the aerial biomass of irrigated guava in São Francisco Valley, Brazil Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Maia,Joselanne Luiza Trajano; Bassoi,Luis Henrique; Silva,Davi José; Lima,Maria Auxiliadora Coelho de; Assis,Joston Simão de; Morais,Patricia Lígia Dantas de.
In perennial crops, fertilizers are applied to restore the amount of nutrient removed from the plant by harvesting. Nevertheless, the immobilized nutrient inside the whole plant should be considered. Based on it, the nutrient concentrations in the guava leaf and fruit and the nutrient contents removed by fruits and post-harvest pruning were evaluated in an irrigated orchard, in Petrolina, State of Pernambuco, Brazil. The greatest contents removed by fruits were N and K among the macronutrients, while Fe, Zn and Mn presented higher levels among the micronutrients. More than 60% of the total content of N, P, K, Mg, Fe, and B removed by pruning were immobilized in the leaf and non-marketable fruit.

Beaufils ranges to assess the cotton nutrient status in the southern region of Mato Grosso Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Serra,Ademar Pereira; Marchetti,Marlene Estevão; Rojas,Enrique Pouyú; Vitorino,Antônio Carlos Tadeu.
The relationships between nutrient contents and indices of the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) are a useful basis to determine appropriate ranges for the interpretation of leaf nutrient contents. The purpose of this study was to establish Beaufils ranges from statistical models of the relationship between foliar concentrations and DRIS indices, generated by two systems of DRIS norms - the F value and natural logarithm transformation - and assess the nutritional status of cotton plants, based on these Beaufils ranges. Yield data from plots (average acreage 100 ha) and foliar concentrations of macro and micronutrients of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum r. latifolium) plants, in the growing season 2004/2005, were stored in a database. The...

Fu,Xing-Zheng; Fa,Xie; Li,Cao; Li-Li,Ling; Chang-Pin,Chun; Liang-Zhi,Peng.
Abstract Changes in the accumulation patterns of mineral nutrients at different development stages of fruit reflect the requirements of citrus trees for different nutrients, and this information provides an essential reference for rational fertilization. In this study, changes in the contents of 11 nutrients in the whole fruit, fruit pulp, and peel were studied during the whole developmental period of the fruit of ‘Seike’ and ‘Newhall’ navel oranges. We found that the two navel orange cultivars showed very similar changes in nutrients. Specifically, the N, P, Mg, S, Mn, and Zn contents were high in the young fruit stage (April), the K and Fe contents were high in the fruit expansion stage (July and August), and the Ca content was high in the fruit...
